Developers and landowners in the municipality of Pyhäjoki are worried about the certainty of implementation of the Fennovoima nuclear power plant project, reported the national broadcaster Yle quoting the news agency STT.

They are now waiting for issuance of the power plant’s construction licence, said the report.

Pyhäjoki is about 100 kilometres south of Oulu. A director of the municipality, Matti Soronen, told STT that the owners of a number of land plots have applied for extension of their building permits so that the work for breaking ground could be postponed, if necessary.

The Fennovoima authorities expect to obtain the construction licence next year.

Fennovoima so far has only submitted a part of the documents needed for the application process to the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK), said the Yle report.

The company assured STUK to provide it with all the necessary documents by the end of this year, although it originally expected to get the licence earlier, by this year.
