The Finnish Army will procure an RGW110 heavy anti-tank weapon system from the German company Dynamit Nobel Defence, said the Ministry of Defence in a press release on Wednesday.
The ministry has authorised the Finnish Defence Forces to procure the weapon system.
The overall value of the procurement, excluding value added tax, is about EUR 84.5 million.
The deliveries of the system and its training equipment as well as the training in its use will start in 2027.
The procurement will improve the Finnish Army’s ability to repel armoured vehicles at close range.
“The procurement will significantly improve the Finnish Army’s ability to repel armoured vehicles at close range. It is part of a broader process where the focus of materiel procurement is shifting to the Army’s needs. Improving the Army’s materiel and equipment is a strategic investment that will strengthen our defence system as a whole,” said Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen.
The new heavy anti-tank weapon is intended to be used by any soldier at close range. It complements the Army’s multi-layered anti-tank capabilities.
Anti-tank weapons allow the massing of fires on a single target from multiple firing positions.
It is a weapon that eases the logistics burden and reduces the physical burden on troops. A single weapon must be compatible with any soldier’s kit under all conditions.
