Prime Minister Petteri Orpo expressed profound shock at the deaths of people in the train accident in Spain on Wednesday.
“Deeply saddened by the tragic railway accident in Toledo, Spain, this morning (Wednesday). My heartfelt condolences go to the families of those who lost their lives, and to everyone affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts are with the people of Spain,” the Premier wrote in a post on his social media platform X.
At least 68 people were killed and dozens injured in a train accident that occurred on Wednesday in the Spanish province of Toledo, south of Madrid.
The accident occurred at around 8:54 a.m. local time (0754 GMT) near Urda station in the province of Toledo, about 120 km south of Madrid.
The collision involved a train operated by state-owned railway company Renfe and another operated by private company Iryo.
Preliminary reports suggested that the Renfe train struck the rear of the Iryo train, which had reportedly been stationary on the tracks. Two carriages derailed and plunged down an embankment.
