Road mishaps claim 18 lives in March

A total of 18 persons were killed and 327 were injured in road accidents in the country in March, said Statistics Finland.

According to the preliminary data of the Statistics Finland, a total of 255 accidents involving personal injury took place in March.

The number human casualties was five higher and that of persons injured 63 higher than in March 2016.

Of the persons who were killed, 10 travelled by private car and one by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered four and cyclists two. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 13 were men and five were women.

A total of 892 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to March period. In them, 47 persons were killed and 1,147 persons injured. The number of persons killed was one lower and that of persons injured 103 higher than in the corresponding period of 2016. Of the persons who were killed, 24 travelled by passenger car, three by van, one by moped and two by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered nine and cyclists two. In addition, six other road users were killed.
