Pelttari charged with disclosing secrecy, abusing power

The National Prosecution Authority filed charges against Secretary-General of Finnish Parliament Antti Pelttari, also a former Director of the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (Supo) and six other people in a case concerning Supo's intelligence activities, said an official press release on Monday.

Pelttari has been charged with disclosing a state security secret and abusing his official position.

The case was related to allegations of breaching rules and regulations governing police powers by Supo, use of intelligence-gathering powers and the handling of classified information.

Deputy Prosecutor General Jukka Rappe filed several charges including abuse of official position, breach of official duty and disclosure of security secrets against seven people with Helsinki District Court.

All of the accused, however, denied the charges brought against them.

Earlier, the Office Commission of Parliament ​suspended Pelttari from his office from 1 July, 2025.

Pelttari, is suspected of treason and official misconduct when he was working as the top official of the Supo.

The allegation of suspected sedition against the Secretary-General of parliament came into light following media reports in May 2025.
