Helsinki reduces parking ticket machines as mobile payment rises

The City of Helsinki is taking approximately 35 parking ticket machines out of service this autumn, said the city in a press release on Tuesday.

After this reduction, there will still be approximately 400 parking ticket machines in operation around the city.

An increasing number of people in Helsinki are paying their parking fees with a mobile app or by text message.

That is why the city is taking parking ticket machines out of service this autumn in areas where they are located close to one another or where their usage is low.

Nowadays over 95% of parking fees in Helsinki are paid using mobile devices. It is usually a quicker option than using a parking ticket machine.
