Finland for diplomatic resolution to Mideast situation

The President and the Ministerial Committee on Tuesday discussed the security situation in the Gulf region and primarily advocated for a diplomatic resolution to the situation, said an official press release.

The meeting emphasized respect for international law and engaged in discussions with its partners and allies.

The committee observed that tensions are escalating again in the Gulf region and in the Middle East as a whole. Disruptions in maritime transport have continued, especially in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea.

The meeting discussed Finland’s ongoing support for Ukraine and efforts to increase pressure on Russia. Finland condemns Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian civilians and civilian infrastructure.

The President and the Ministerial Committee also received reports on the current security situation from the Finnish Security Intelligence Service and military intelligence. The reports focused on the threat posed by Russia in Europe.
