Finnish taxis to get green registration plate

The registration plate of taxis in Finland will be green from next year, said the ministry of Transport and Communications in a press release on Thursday.

The government issued a decree on the colour of registration numbers and registration plates and the decree is scheduled to enter into force on 1 January 2027.

The decree was issued following a government proposal on taxi regulation that introduced provisions to the Vehicles Act requiring taxis to display coloured registration plates, so-called taxi plates.

Earlier, the government submitted the proposal to Parliament on 26 February 2026 and Parliament approved it on 26 June 2026.

According to the decree, the register plates would have black characters on a green background.

In selecting the colour scheme, particular attention was paid to visibility, accessibility and the needs of police supervisory duties.

In addition, a reference to customs plates will be removed from the Decree as these will no longer be issued.
