Drone found in Porvoo seems to be a Geoscan 701 model: Border Guard

The drone found on the coast of Porvoo on Tuesday seems to be a Geoscan 701 model, said Finnish Border Guard on Friday.

The model is in use by both state and civilian operators, and the purpose of the device nor the country or party operating it cannot be confirmed at this stage, said the Border Guard based on the preliminary external examination.

Earlier, the Border Guard has launched a border violation investigation into the unmanned aerial vehicle.

The investigation aims to determine when and how the aerial vehicle entered Finland and where it originated.

In addition, the Border Guard is investigating the aircraft’s point and manner of possible entry into Finland.

The drone was suspected of violating Finnish airspace on the coast of Porvoo on September 1.
