Kontula murder suspect admits stabbing elderly woman

The man, who was arrested on charge of stabbing an elderly woman to death at Kontula metro station in Helsinki on July 18 admitted that he had committed the incident, said police on Monday.

"Police have questioned the suspect once, and he has confessed to the act. Police will request that he be remanded in custody early next week," said the head of the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Juha Piippo in a press release.

Police said that the attack took place outside entrance C of Kontula metro station after 11.00 a.m and it was recorded on surveillance cameras.

"After the attack, the suspect left Kontula by metro for Mellunmäki, where police arrested him at 12.36 pm. The weapon used in the offence is in police custody," said Piippo.

Police forensic officers carried out a crime scene investigation in Kontula on Saturday. Witnesses are also being questioned as part of the pre-trial investigation.

The elderly woman was killed when the man attacked her with sharp weapon in front of Kontula metro station in Helsinki on July 18.
