A woman with immigrant background came under a suspected racist attack in Oulu late Friday night, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place at about 8:30 p.m. when a man riding a bicycle attacked the woman with a sharp weapon when she was walking through the path at Knuutilankangas area in the city.

The attacker also used anti-immigrant words toward the victim in a derogatory manner, which prompted the police to investigate into the incident as suspected hate crime, said police.

The woman sustained wounds at her backside, but police said that her injuries were not life threatening.

Police, however, did not disclose the identity of the victim but said that she is a Finnish national with immigrant background.

The identity of the suspect could not be known and police requested information about him from witnesses.

Police are investigating into the attack as attempted murder.

Earlier in September 2024, a 23-year-old local man attacked the student of Kastelli high school with a knife on the road in between the school and Oulu University Hospital.

Police found racial motivation in the stabbing. The suspect had some degree of longer-term hostile attitudes towards immigrants.

Earlier on June 19, 2024 miscreant stabbed a foreign background student and injured him critically outside of the Valkea shopping centre in Oulu.

On June 13, 2024 a 12-year-old child with foreign background was injured when a man with the background of extreme right activities attacked the child with knife at Valkea shopping centre in Oulu.
