President starts 4-day visits to Jordan, Egypt

President Alexander Stubb is starting a two-day official visit to Jordan on Sunday, said the President Office in a press release.

“Over the next few days, I will be visiting Jordan and Egypt Jordan and Egypt have played a significant role in advancing regional stability in the Middle East,” Stubb wrote in a post on his social media platform X on Saturday.

On Sunday Stubb will meet with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II in Amman.

The discussions will address the situation in Iran, the Strait of Hormuz and the Middle East.

Other topics on the agenda are bilateral relations between Finland and Jordan, Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine and current global challenges.

The President will also visit the University of Jordan where he will deliver a lecture on global transitions and the changing balance of power.

On Monday, the programme includes meetings with Prime Minister of Jordan Jafar Hassan, President of the Senate of Jordan Faisal al-Fayez and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Jordan Mazen al-Qadi.

Meanwhile, after visiting Jordan, the President will start a two-day visit to Egypt on Tuesday.

He will meet with President of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo on the first day of the visit.

The presidents will discuss the situation in Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, Gaza and the broader Middle East.

The topics of the meeting include bilateral relations between Finland and Egypt, Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine, transatlantic relations and the global order.

The programme further features meetings with Prime Minister of Egypt Moustafa Madbouly and the Grand Imam of al Al-Azhar, Ahmed El-Tayeb.

Later in the afternoon, Stubb will speak at a Finland–Egypt business forum about the prospects of geopolitics and economy.

On Wednesday, the President will visit the American University in Cairo in order to deliver a lecture on global transitions and the changing balance of power.

During his visit, Stubb will also meet Pope of Alexandria Tawadros II, leader of the Coptic Orthodox Church as well as the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, and permanent representatives of the Arab League.

Later in the day, the president will visit the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), dedicated to Ancient Egypt and its treasures and artifacts.

While in Egypt, President Stubb will also meet local business and foreign policy experts.

The previous presidential visit from Finland to Egypt was made by President Tarja Halonen in 2009.
