The police will place the suspect of the Helsinki murder before the court seeking remand into custody for further interrogation, said police on Friday.

Police also said that the murder was carried out in a brutal manner, and the victim and the suspect were not previously known to each other.

An elderly man was killed when another man attacked him with sharp weapon at Luutnantintie area near Malminkartano railway station in Helsinki late Wednesday night.

In addition to violence committed with an edged weapon, significant further violence was directed at the victim,” said the investigator in charge, Detective Chief Inspector Jari Korkalainen in a press release.

The Police, however, did not divulge details about the incident and the identities of the victim and the suspect at the initial stage of the investigation.
