Finland is boosting its support for the reform of Ukraine’s education system through Learning together, said the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in a press release on Wednesday.

The project is a EUR 20 million investment in Ukraine’s EU approximation, reconstruction and long-term education reform. It will be implemented in 2026–2029.

Ukraine has asked for Finland’s assistance in developing its education system. This project will accelerate Ukraine’s extensive New Ukrainian School reform, with a particular focus on developing general upper secondary education (years 10–12).

The goal is to improve learning outcomes, strengthen teacher education and ensure that high-quality education is available to everyone in Ukraine regardless of their background or where they live.

Ukraine’s education sector has been under increased pressure because of Russia’s war of aggression and corona pandemic.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science has been closely involved in every stage of planning the project and is the key project owner. The project highlights Finland’s role in providing long-term and significant support to Ukraine’s education sector.

“Making sure that young people have access to education is one way of supporting Ukraine's reconstruction and is an investment in the country’s future. Education builds hope and will boost Ukraine’s productivity and competitiveness,” said Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio in the press release.
