Man comes under violent attack in Helsinki centre, suspect held

A man sustained severe wounds when another man attacked him at Helsinki city centre late Saturday night, police said.
The incident took place at about 8:00 p.m. when the suspect and the victim were walking on the road next to the Makkaratalo building near Helsinki central railway station.
The men engaged in a bargaining and at certain stage one attacked another as a sequel to the quarrel, police said, quoting eyewitnesses.
Police, however, did not specify what kind of weapon was used in the attack.
Responding to an alarm police and emergency service people rushed to the spot and took the victim to hospital but the suspect left the scene by this time.
Police said that the condition of the injured person was not life threatening.
After the incident police conducted extensive search at the area and arrested the suspect early Sunday night
Police said that the suspect and the victim were native Finns aged between 20 and 30 years and they knew each other but did not divulge their detail identities.
Police are investigating into the incident as suspected attempted murder.
