Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on Saturday said that all states have a responsibility to respect and act in accordance with international law.
Referring to the US strike in Venezuela, Valtonen in a post on her social media platform X wrote that the Ministry for Foreign Affairs was closely monitoring developments in Venezuela in cooperation with partners and allies.
“All states have a responsibility to respect and act in accordance with international law. This principle is a cornerstone of Finland’s foreign policy,” the Foreign Minister wrote in her post.
she also said that Finland, as part of the European Union, has previously stated that Nicolás Maduro’s government lacks legitimacy.
“The EU has consistently supported the country’s peaceful, democratic development,” she added.
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the United States has struck Venezuela and captured its President Nicolas Maduro, who was flown out of the country along with his wife.
