The Finnish Defence Forces will also procure support services for military aviation, maritime defence, intelligence, surveillance and command and control from the Finnish companies Patria Aviation Oy and Insta Group Oy.

The main part of deliveries will take place in 2026–2030, said the Ministry of Defence in a press release on Friday.

The total value of the procurement from Patria Aviation Oy, excluding value added tax, is around EUR 62.4 million.

In Finland, the employment impact will be around 540 person-years in 2026 and around 1,960 in 2026–2030.

The total value of the procurement from Insta Group Oy, excluding value added tax, is around EUR 17.1 million. Its employment impact will be around 50 person-years in Finland.

“The employment impact of procuring defence system services from our strategic partners is significant. It is an essential element of military security of supply that the Finnish Defence Forces can get critical services from the Finnish defence industry,” said Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen in the press release.

Both Patria Aviation Oy and Insta Group Oy are strategic partners of the Finnish Defence Forces.

The partnership agreements cover life-cycle support services for the aircraft and systems in military aviation, maritime defence systems and the systems of intelligence, surveillance, command and control, target acquisition, training and information security.

Meanwhile, the Finnish Defence Forces will procure AIM-120D-3 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) from the United States, said the Ministry in another press release on Friday.

The missiles will be compatible with F-35A multi-role combat aircraft. They will supplement the weaponry of the future F-35 fleet, the D-3 being the latest and most advanced variant of AMRAAM.

In September 2025, the United States Congress approved a Foreign Military Sale to Finland of AMRAAM manufactured by Raytheon. The first missile deliveries will support the deployment of the F-35 fleet.

“This procurement will give Finland the latest and most advanced variant of AMRAAM, which will improve our ability to respond to threats in our operating environment. It will further strengthen our interoperability with the United States and our other allies,” said Häkkänen.

The procurement includes the missiles, manuals and documentation, spare parts and supplies, transport and the training, repair and support services provided by the manufacturer and supplier in accordance with the Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA). The LOA also includes services provided by the US administration.

Currently, AMRAAM used by the F/A-18 Hornet fleet constitute a central element of the Finnish Air Force’s medium-range air-to-air weaponry.

The Finnish Army also uses them in its Surface-to-Air Missile 12 (ITO12) Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS). The D-3 variant to be purchased will only be used by the F-35 fleet.
