Father of dead children held for suspected arson in Savonlinna

Police are investigating into the fire, which broke out in a house in Savonlinna on Saturday and claimed lives of three children and their mother as suspected arson, said police on Monday.

Members of the law enforcing agency also arrested a 22-year-old man, father of the children on charge of suspected murders of four people.

Police said that bodies of all the deceased were found in the same room of the gutted house.

Chief Inspector Teemu Värtinen, who is leading the investigation said that police are investigating into the case as arson and murder.

Police on Monday interrogated the suspect and will continue the technical investigation of the crime scene and interview the eyewitnesses to get more information about the incident.

Police, however, did not divulge details about the incident and the suspect at the preliminary stage of the investigation.

The woman and her three children were burnt to death in the fire occurred at a detached house at Louhi in Savonlinna, a municipality under South Savo region in Eastern Finland on December 6.
