Several conscripts injured in army vehicle crash in Raseborg

Several conscripts were injured in a road accident during an international military exercise in Raseborg, a municipality under Uusimaa region on Sunday afternoon, police and local media said.

Police said that the accident took place at about 12:45 p.m. when an army truck with 13 conscripts onboard skidded off the road and fell into a ditch at Perniöntie area.

Police, however, did not divulge the exact number of the injured conscripts but said that they were undergoing treatment in hospital.

One of the conscripts sustained severe wounds but the condition was not life threatening.

The conscripts are serving for Coastal Brigade under Finnish Navy and participating in the Exercise Freezing Winds 25.

Exercise Freezing Winds 25 led by Finnish navy has begun in southern Finland, the Archipelago Sea, and the Gulf of Finland on November 24 and will continue till December 4.

After the preliminary investigation, police suspected the driver of the truck of endangering traffic safety and causing injury.

The Accident Investigation Board and police are investigating into the incident to find out the circumstances surrounding the accident to get more information in this regard.
