Woman stabbed to death in Varkaus, suspect held

A woman was killed when a man allegedly attacked her with a sharp weapon in Varkaus, a municipality under North Savo region on Monday afternoon, police said.

The incident took place at about 4:30 p.m. inside an apartment at Jäppiläntie area in the locality.

Responding to an alarm police and rescue service people rushed to the spot and found the victim critically injured. She succumbed to her wounds immediately.

Police also found a man, who informed the emergency services, in the house and suspected him of the murder.

Police arrested the suspect from the spot.

Police, however, did not divulge the identities of the victim and the suspect.

Police did not disclose the detail about the incident at the initial stage of the investigation and are investigating into the case as suspected murder.
