Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on Monday had to cancel her speech at the German Federal Academy for Security Policy in Berlin as the event was cancelled over security concerns, reported national broadcaster Yle.

The ministry or the minister, however, did not make any official announcement regarding the cancellation till 10:00 p.m. on Monday.

Earlier in the morning, the ministry in a press release said Valtonen will visit Berlin to participate in discussions on topical foreign and security policy matters.

“Minister Valtonen will give a speech on topical European security matters at the German Federal Academy for Security Policy (Bundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik),” said the ministry in the press release.

The event was cancelled after a car was illegally parked in front of the venue and its driver left the scene, reported Yle, quoting its European correspondent.

The authority cancelled the event sensing possible bomb threat, said the report, adding that the Academy in a statement on its website confirmed about the cancelation of Valtonen's speech.
