President to join funeral of Pope Francis

President Alexander Stubb will attend the funeral of Pope Francis, the 266th pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, said the President Office in a press release on Wednesday.

The funeral Mass for Pope Francis will take place on April 26 in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.

Pope Francis died on April 21 at the age of 88.

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on Dec. 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Francis was head of the Roman Catholic Church since 2013.

Finnish leaders including Stubb, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen expressed condolence at the death of Pope Francis.
