US missile cruiser arrives in Helsinki for maintenance

The United States Navy’s guided-missile cruiser, USS Gettysburg arrived at Hernesaari Port in Helsinki on Saturday.

The vessel will stay in Finland until Wednesday, said Finnish Nany in a press release.

Terming the arrival as a routine visit, Navy said that USS Gettysburg will make a maintenance call in Finland during which the vessel will receive fuel and food replenishments and the crew will get an opportunity to spend some free time ashore.

The vessel will not be open to the people.

Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg is 173 meters long and 16,8 meters wide.

It is specialized in air defense, anti-surface warfare, and anti-submarine warfare.

The ship can house a crew complement of 388. The vessel’s homeport is in Norfolk, Virginia.

Visits to Allied countries demonstrate the commitment of also the United States to NATO, to collective defence and boost the security and stability of the Baltic Sea region.

Commander Toni Joutsia of the Coastal Fleet is hosting the visit.
