Mika Poutala to become next Sport Minister

The SuomenKristillisdemokraatit (Christian Democrats of Finland-CD), a component of the four-party alliance government on Saturday proposed the name of party lawmaker Mika Poutala as the next Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity of the country, said an official press release.

The party will finalise the nomination at a joint meeting of its council and parliamentary group on November 30.

Poutala will take over the charge from Sandra Bergqvist of Suomenruotsalainenkansanpuolue (Swedish People’s Party of Finland-RKP) in 2025 as per the government formation negotiation.

The ruling parties in the government formation talks agreed that the CD and RKP will share the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity portfolio for two years each.

Poutala of CD will take over as the minister for the last two years of the government term as Bergqvist of RKP took over at the beginning of the government term for the first two years.

Now Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah, the Chairperson of the CD is the only minister of the party while RKP has two ministers- Minister of Education Anders Adlercreutz, Chair of the party and Sandra Bergqvist.
