Elderly man drowns in Kuhmo

An elderly man drowned in water in Kuhmo, a municipality under Kainuu region late Friday night, police said in a press release on Saturday.

The incident took place at about 8:30 pm when the man went for swimming in the water at Lentiira in Enonperänlahti area.

While swimming at certain stage the man went under the water.

A woman, who was present there tried to save the man but failed and later called to the emergency centre.

Responding to the alarm rescue service people rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the man from the water.

Police, however, did not divulge the detail identity of the deceased.

The Police are investigating into the incident to find out the reason behind the death.

At the initial stage, the police did not suspect any crime link to the incident.
