President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will meet in Lappeenranta, Finland on Friday, said an official press release on Monday.

They will also visit Finland’s eastern border.

The main purpose of the visit is for the President of the European Commission to learn more about instrumentalised migration to Finland.

von der Leyen and Orpo will discuss what Finland and the EU can do to prevent instrumentalised migration to Finland’s eastern border.

Their discussions will focus on the growing challenges Russia’s war of aggression poses for the vitality of Eastern Finland and on a variety of key EU issues, such as the Strategic Agenda for the next European Commission and the security situation in Europe.

Orpo and von der Leyen will travel to Lappeenranta together from the extraordinary European Summit in Brussels.

During the trip, they will discuss the programme and structure of the next Commission and ways to strengthen the EU’s competitiveness, the press release added.
