Elderly couple die in Hirvensalmi car mishap

Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a personal vehicle and trailer in Hirvensalmi, south Savonia on Wednesday morning, reported the Finnish media outlet MTV news.
The two who perished were riding in the personal vehicle. According to the police, the driver of the trailer was not injured in the accident.
No information on the sex and age of the victims was available till Wednesday morning, said Sami Joutjärvi from the Eastern Finland Police Department. It, however, emerged later that the victims were an elderly couple – an 85-year-old man and 78-year-old woman. The man was driving the car.
The events leading to the accident in the morning hours of Wednesday are still not known. The area was frosty at the night but there is still no information on its impact on the accident.
According to the police, the Otavantie and Vilkonharju mill intersection was the exact spot of the accident. It is not yet clear whether the trailer was heading or leaving the mill, said Joutjärvi.
