President Sauli Niinistö and his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda on Monday met in Warsaw and discussed various bilateral and international issues such as cooperation in border security, Ukraine and Middle East situation.
“Good and in-depth conversation with President of Poland Andrzej Duda today (Monday) in Warsaw. Close cooperation in regional security issues such as border security is needed. We also discussed our strong support to Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East,” Niinistö wrote in a twitter post in social media platform X after the meeting.
Earlier, the President and first lady Jenni Haukio arrived Poland on a two-day official visit in the morning.
On the first day of the visit Niinistö also participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and meetings with other leaders. The day ended with a dinner hosted by the Polish presidential couple.
On Tuesday, the President will participate in a discussion with students at the University of Warsaw on security in Europe and its neighbouring regions.
In addition to the joint programme of the presidential couple, Jenni Haukio will be accompanied by Agata Kornhauser-Duda to discover, among other things, the artistic and cultural history of Poland.
Niinistö previously visited Poland in 2020 to attend the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. President Duda last visited Finland in 2017.
