Turkish embassy in Helsinki comes under suspected attack

The Turkish embassy in Helsinki came under a suspected smoke cartage attack on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Helsinki police, referring to information from the emergency centre said that smoke was seen at the embassy at about 4:30 pm and suspected link of a small group to the incident.

The police in a post in X, formerly twitter said that eyewitnesses found a group of four people walking around the embassy at the time of the incident and left the scene later.

“The police suspect that the group may be involved in the incident,” said Helsinki police in the post, adding that the suspects could not be reached till the evening.

The police and rescue services people are investigating into the suspected attack to find out more information in this regard.

A criminal case was lodged in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen expressed her disappointment over the incident.

"I am saddened about today's (Wednesday) vandalism of the Turkish Embassy. Hostile activities against diplomatic missions are reprehensible,” Valtonen wrote in a post in X in Finnish, adding that the police are investigating into the incident sand the minister believed that more information will be found in this regard.

The Turkish embassy appreciated Valtonen for the remarks and said that they are waiting for the result of the police investigation.”

“Honourable Minister Elina Valtonen. we are deeply touched by your kind and caring message. We are looking forward to hear the outcome of the police investigation. Thank you very much!,” the embassy wrote in the post in its X.
