Finland demands probe into Kakhovka dam explosion

Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto on Tuesday said that the cause of the explosion at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam in southern Ukraine must be investigated.

He also expressed Finland´s willingness to help civilians suffering from the damage, said the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in a twitter post.

“Explosion at Kakhovka dam causes great risk and danger to civilians. It’s a huge humanitarian and ecological disaster and can have major impact on water supply. The cause of the explosion must be investigated. Finland ready to help civilians suffering from the damage,” said the ministry in the twitter post, quoting Haavisto as saying.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that Russian forces had destroyed the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam in southern Ukraine, reported Xinhua.

All services are working to eliminate the consequences of the incident, Zelensky said in a Telegram post, adding that he had convened the National Security and Defense Council.
