Man killed in lorry-car collision at Liperi

One person was killed in a road accident on highway 9 at Liperi, a municipality in North Karelia region on Tuesday morning.

Police said that the accident occurred at about 7:45 am when a private car coming from Kuopio direction skidded off the road at Viinijärvi area and collided with a lorry coming from Joensuu direction at the nearby opposite lane.

The man, who was driving the car died on the spot and the car was damaged badly in the accident.

Police, however, did not divulge the identity of the deceased.

Responding to an alarm, rescue service people and police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

Traffic movement on the road disrupted for several hours due to the accident.

The Accident Investigation Board and Police are investigating into the incident to find out the reason behind the accident.
