Finland ranked fourth in the 2022 index measuring gender equality in the European Union, according to European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) index published on Monday.
Sweden remained top the index again followed by Denmark and The Netherlands, showed the index, which measures the state of gender equality in a number of different domains.
The index gives more visibility to areas that need improvement and ultimately supports policy makers to design more effective gender equality measures, said EIGE in a release.
The Gender Equality Index has tracked the painfully slow progress of gender equality in the EU since 2010, mostly due to advances in decision-making.
Finland secured 75.4 out of 100 points and the score is 6.8 points above the EU’s score.
Sweden scored 83.9 points while Denmark 77.8 and the Netherlands 77.3 points.
Since 2010, Finland’s score has increased by 2.3 points, while it has remained almost the same since 2019 (+ 0.1 points).
The country’s ranking has risen one place since 2019, mainly due to progress in the domain of health.
Sweden´s score is 15.3 points above the EU’s score.
Since 2010, Sweden’s score has increased by 3.8 points, mainly due to improvements in the domains of power and time.
Although there has been no change in its score since 2019, Sweden has retained the lead of gender equality in the EU for over a decade.
Finland ranked fifth in the 2021 index and placed fourth in 2020.
