Energy price focused in PM´s report to Grand Committee

Prime Minister Sanna Marin on Wednesday submitted her report to the Grand Committee on the European Council (EC) summit starting on Thursday where she focused the energy issue.
In the hearing of the Grand Committee, attention was drawn to energy matters, which the Prime Minister also described as the main topic of the summit, said the Parliament in a press release.
The topics of the EC summit are Ukraine and Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, food security and critical infrastructure, energy and economic issues, and external relations,
The discussion in the Grand Committee hearing focused on ways to influence the price of energy, the proposals of the Commission's recent communication, joint purchases of gas and structural reforms of the electricity market, as well as the effects of member countries' national support measures on EU-level actions.
Regarding the discussion about the gas price ceiling, the Grand Committee discussed, for example, the positions of member countries and the effects of a possible price cap on energy availability. Securing investments in clean energy production amid the current crisis also came up in the discussion.
Among other topics, the Grand Committee and the Prime Minister discussed, for example, the situation of fertilizer imports from Russia, the promotion of the EU's uniform visa practice for Russia.
Related to the European Council's strategic China discussion, they also discussed Europe's technological self-sufficiency and member states' dependencies on individual states.
Marin will attend the EC meeting in Brussels on Thursday and Friday.
