Niinistö, Zelensky hold telephone conversation, discuss Ukraine war

President Sauli Niinistö on Friday held a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and discussed the situation of war in Ukraine, said the President Office in a press release.
Niinistö got valuable information on the war situation during the conversation and assured Zelensky to continue Finnish assistance to Ukraine, Niinistö wrote in his twitter after the conversation.
“In our phone call, President @ZelenskyyUa gave valuable information on the battle situation and the progress of Ukrainian forces. We also discussed the continuing Finnish assistance to Ukraine and the sanctions on Russia,” the Finnish President wrote in his twitter post.
Earlier on Thursday, Niinistö held a telephone conversation with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier and discussed various issues including Russia´s attack on Ukraine.
Niinistö made the conversations ahead of his visit to USA from 19 September to 25 September.
He will travel to the United States to attend the opening week of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
