Prime Minister Sanna Marin and Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto congratulated the newly elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and leader of the Conservative Party Liz Truss.

The Finnish leaders in separate twitter posts late Monday night also expressed their optimism about continuation of close cooperation between Finland and UK.

“Warm congratulations @trussliz on your future role as Prime Minister. UK is among Finland’s most valued partners. I look forward to working closely with you on security & defence, climate and so many other areas,” Marin wrote in her twitter post.

“Many congratulations to Britain’s next Prime Minister Liz Truss. During the last years we have had excellent co-operation as Foreign Affairs Ministers. Looking forward to continued dialogue and close relations between Finland and UK,” wrote Haavisto in his twitter.

Liz Truss, foreign secretary of the United Kingdom (UK), has won the ruling Conservative Party's leadership contest and will replace Boris Johnson as the country's new prime minister.

In the runoff, Truss beat her rival, former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak by winning approximately 57.4 percent of the Conservative Party members' vote, Graham Brady, chair of the party's backbench 1922 Committee, announced on Monday.
