Finland condoles at death of Abe

President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin on Friday expressed profound shock at the death of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Abe has died after being shot on Friday during a campaign event in western Japan, the hospital where he was treated confirmed.

“Deeply shocked to hear about the violent attack against former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones and the people of Japan,” Niinistö wrote in a twitter post immediately after the attack.

The President also sent a letter to Emperor Naruhito, expressing his deepest condolences on the tragic death of Abe.

Prime Minister Sanna Marin also expresses her condolences on behalf of the Finnish Government to Abe's loved ones and to the people of Japan, said a government press release.
