Finnish Central Organisation for Rescue Services (Suomen Pelastusalan Keskusjärjestö)- SPEK has collected more than 3800 protective gears for the firefighters in Ukraine within a span of less than one week.

The gears included about 700 helmets, about 700 fire suits and more than 300 pairs of boots, chainsaws, response modems, motorised sprayers and heaters will be sent to Ukraine through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, said the SPEK in a press release on Tuesday.

The SPEK is also looking to send larger equipment including vehicles to their colleagues in Ukraine.

Earlier, the Ukrainian rescue service sent a request to Finland seeking the protective gears for the firefighters.

“The war in Ukraine has shocked the rescue sector. Finnish fire brigade has been supporting for the democracy and social peace since its inception. It is painful to see how difficult for the Ukrainian firefighters to deal with the situation now. We want to show our support and offer the help requested by the Ukrainians,” said Petri Jaatinen, Director Fire Brigade of SPEK.
