Niinistö, Zelensky hold telephone conversation

President Sauli Niinistö on Friday made a phone call to his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and discussed the present situation in Ukraine following Russia´s military attack, said the President Office in a press release.

Niinistö reiterated that Finland strongly condemns Russia's military actions in Ukraine and supports Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The President expressed deep compassion to Ukraine on behalf of the people of Finland. He informed that Finland is increasing its financial support to Ukraine by almost 15 million euros, allocated to a fund supporting Ukraine's resilience and to humanitarian aid.

Niinistö in twitter post also wrote that during the telephone conversation he expressed the deep sympathy of Finnish people to Ukraine in this terrible situation.

“I spoke with President @ZelenskyyUA on the phone this morning. I expressed the deep sympathy of the Finnish people to Ukraine in this terrible situation. I informed him of the almost 15 million EUR aid Finland provides to Ukraine,” Niinistö wrote in his twitter in the morning.

Niinistö also met the Ambassador of Ukraine to Finland, Olga Dibrova, in Mäntyniemi.

Earlier on Thursday, Finland strongly condemned Russia´s military attack on Ukraine and expressed sympathies to the people of Ukraine.

Terming the overnight attack as shocking to everyone, President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin from a joint press conference also demanded an immediate end to the hostilities.
