A total of 25,000 financial aid decision letters from the national social insurance institution- Kela were not sent out in December Due to a printer malfunction.

The letters will be mailed this week, and the appeal period will begin to run from the new date of mailing, said Kela in a press release on Monday.

The decisions, however, were available in the OmaKela e-service already back in December. Students entitled to financial aid for January have received their payments as scheduled.

The decision letters that will now go out say that the decision was issued and mailed in December. They will be accompanied by a cover letter informing the students that the paper decision is being sent late due to a problem at Kela.

The cover letter also explains the new deadline for appealing the decision. The appeal period runs from the new date of mailing.

Students who wish to appeal must indicate in their appeal that they did not receive their decision until February 2022.

Kela has identified all customers who did not receive their decision as scheduled.

The problem affected financial aid decisions which involved a review of financial aid on grounds of parental income from 1 January 2022.
