The waterfront structures of the Allas Sea Pool at Helsinki Port were damaged in a collision with a Viking Line ferry recently, said the City of Helsinki in a press release on Friday.

The City is investigating damage caused by the collision between Viking Line ferry M/S Gabriella and Katajanokanlaituri in Katajanokka on 12 January.

The waterfront area is owned by the City of Helsinki and has been leased for the use of Allas Sea Pool.

The damage to the quay and support wall has been investigated since last week with diving surveys, among other methods.

Further investigation is required to determine the full extent of the damage, but the investigations carried out so far have already revealed a need for repairs in the area.

Allas Sea Pool has suspended its operations due to the required investigations and until the repair needs of its own buildings can be assessed.

Access to the waterfront area has been restricted to ensure safety.

Allas Sea Pool was already closed before the accident due to COVID-19 restrictions.
