Birth rate stays lower than death rate in Jan-Nov

A total of 45,847 children were born during January-November in Finland while the number of total deaths was 51,768, according to Statistics Finland.

The number of births was 5,921 lower than that of deaths during the stipulated period.

The number of birth, however, was 3,050 higher than in the corresponding period in 2020. The number of deaths was also 1,338 higher than one year earlier.

Finland's population was 5,549,599 at the end of November. The population of the country increased by 15,806 persons during January-November. The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 20,432.

According to the preliminary statistics for January-November, 31,557 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 11,125 persons emigrated from Finland.

The number of immigrants was 1,449 higher and the number of emigrants 2,814 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 7,572 of the immigrants and 7,369 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
