President Sauli Niinistö on Tuesday held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and discussed various bilateral and international issues including the worrisome situation at the borders of Ukraine, said the President Office in a press release.

Niinistö expressed grave concern on the tense situation at the borders of Ukraine during the telephone discussion and stressed the need to find a diplomatic resolution to it.

The Presidents of the neighbouring countries also discussed various bilateral issues.

Niinistö said that Finland has a stable foreign and security policy line as expressed in the government reports.

Earlier on Monday, Niinistö held a phone conversation with his counterpart of the United States Joseph R. Biden and discussed various bilateral and international issues including the worrisome situation at the borders of Ukraine.

On Monday, Niinistö also had a phone conversation with Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The topic of that conversation was Mitsotakis’s meeting with Putin in Sochi in the preceding week.
