Mother, child found dead in Porvoo house, father dead in Helsinki

A woman and her under school age child were found dead in an apartment house in Porvoo on Thursday while father of the child was found dead in Helsinki on the same day, police said.

Police at the initial stage suspected the deaths of the women and child as murders while local newspapers reported that the man was killed in an accident.

“A child and a woman under school age were found dead… Both of them are suspected of being victims of a homicide,” Commissioner of the Eastern Uusimaa Police Department Miika Laine said in a statement.

The father of the child was found dead at Kyläsaari area in Helsinki on Thursday morning.

Although police did not tell detail about the death of the man, local newspapers reported that he was killed in a car collision in Helsinki.

Police said that they are communicating with relatives of the deceased to get further information in this regard.

As the deaths took place in separate areas under different police stations, the cases are now being investigated by the Central Criminal Police department.

“We are investigating into the cases as two murders in close cooperation with the Eastern Uusimaa police,” said Detective Inspector Jan Aarnisalo from the Central Criminal Police.

Members of the law enforcing agency are also investigating, if there is any link between the death of the man in Helsinki and the deaths of the woman and child in Porvoo.

The police, however, did not disclose the identities of the victims and details about the incidents at the initial stage of the investigation.
