The opposition Vihreä Liitö (Green League) demanded an immediate end to forced deportation of asylum seekers.
A Green League delegation at a meeting in Riihimäki approved the party’s new refugee paper which demanded to increase Finland’s refugee quota to 2,500 a year from the existing 750, the party said in a press release on Sunday.
The party also wanted that the mandatory income limit for the refugees specified by the immigration authorities for family reunification of the refugees also be abolished.
“The level of asylum decisions has deteriorated and the legal protection of refugees has been endangered in an unprecedented way,” Kaisa Hernberg, council chairperson of the party, said referring to senior lawyers.
The refugee policy paper also censured the government policy of tightening refugee policies without taking the impact in consideration.
It also accused the government of toughening asylum decision criteria.
