1 killed in light aircraft crash in Hyvinkää

One person was killed and another injured when a light aircraft crashed at Hyvinkää airport on Monday, local media reported, quoting emergency services.

The accident took place when the two-seater aircraft hit the ground while landing just before the runway.

Out of the two people, the pilot died on the spot while the passenger was injured.

The injured passenger was taken to the hospital.

"A two-seater plane tried to land at the airport, but the plane hit the ground just before the runway", reported national broadcaster Yle, quoting on duty firefighter Tommi Leppioja as saying.

Leppioja, however, said that the weather conditions at the airport were sunny and clear.

Hyvinkää airport manager Jukka Helminen told Yle that the plane was being used for flight training at the time of the crash.
