Vartiainen made Helsinki Mayor

Juhana Vartiainen of the opposition Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) has been made the mayor of the Helsinki City for the next four years.
The Helsinki City Council at its first meeting selected the Mayor and the Deputy Mayors on Thursday, said the City in a press release.
Anni Sinnemäki of Vihreä Liitto (Green League) has been chosen as Deputy Mayor for Urban Environment, Nasima Razmyar of the Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) has been selected as the Deputy Mayor for Education, Daniel Sazonov of Kansallinen Kokoomus as Deputy Mayor for Social Services and Health Care and Paavo Arhinmäki of Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) has been selected as the Deputy Mayor for Culture and Leisure.
The City Council also chose the presiding officers. The Council chose the Vihreä Liitto leader Fatim Diarra as its chairperson.
The first vice chair is lawmaker Wille Rydman of Kokoomus and the second vice chair is State Secretary Pilvi Torsti of SDP.
All the decisions were unanimous. The term of office of the Mayors started on 2 August.
