1 drowns as 2 boats collide in Kokkola

One person was killed in an accident between two boats in water in Kokkola on Saturday afternoon.

Police said that the accident took place at about 12:45 pm when a big boat bearing one person collided with a small boat with two passenger onboard.

The driver of the smaller boat fell into the water and drowned immediately. Later a boatman found the person floating in the water and informed the emergency services.

Responding to the call, Rescue Service and Coast Guard personnel rushed to the spot and recovered the person and tried to resuscitate but found the person dead.

The police are investigating into the matter to find out the reasons behind the accident and the death.

They did not divulge anything more about the incident or the victim at this stage of the investigation.

Earlier, at least eight people were drowned at different parts in the country during the Midsummer in the late June.

Out of the deaths, four were reported on Midsummer Eve on June 25 while the rest four on the Midsummer day on June 26.
