Man suspected of killing spouse

A suspect was on Monday remanded in custody by the District Court of Uusimaa in suspicion of murder, said the police on Tuesday.

Detective inspector Rauli Salonen confirmed that the victim of the murder is the suspect's spouse. The suspected killing happened on the 6th of May in Nummela, said a police bulletin.

According to national broadcaster Yle, the suspect is a 36-year-old man.

Detective inspector Salonen also dispelled rumours that the victim had been a child in the family. The family had moved to Nummela at the beginning of the year.

"The suspect has been interrogated during the preliminary investigation; however, the interrogation has not yielded information about the act itself, the manner in which it was carried out or its motives. Besides the suspect, we have also interrogated several witnesses," Salonen said.

Technical investigation will continue in conjunction with the preliminary investigation interrogations.
