One person was sentenced to 16-month imprisonment for an accidental firing, which caused death of a cyclist in the Urho Kekkonen National Park last year, reported the local media.
The Lapland District Court on Monday awarded the punishment and fined EUR 55,000 to the convict as the allegations of aggravated involuntary manslaughter and hunting offence brought against him were proven beyond doubt.
The court ordered the convict to surrender his firearm and pay 12,000 euro compensation to the victim’s family and 43,000 euro for loss of earnings and legal and funeral costs.
The victim was gunned down in an accidental shooting in the Urho Kekkonen National Park on 18 October last year.
The accident took place when the cyclist and four other mountain bikers were passing through an area between Kemihaara and Korvatunturi.
The 30-year old-victim, who hailed from Helsinki, succumbed to his bullet wound at the spot, while the four others remained unhurt.
