Deaths outnumber births in first 8 months

A total of 31,267 children were born and 36,344 died in the country during January-August period, according to the Statistics Finland.
The number of births was 5,077 less than that of deaths.
The number of births is 782 higher and the number of deaths is 587 higher than the corresponding numbers in the same period of 2019.
Finland's population was 5,532,333 at the end of August. The total population, however, increased by 7,041 persons during January-August. The reason for the increase was migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 12,145.
According to the preliminary statistics for August, 19,349 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad in January-August and 7,204 persons emigrated from Finland.
The number of immigrants was 2,747 lower and the number of emigrants 4,176 lower than that in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 6,560 of the immigrants and 4,664 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
